Language Preservation Project
We are on Quadra Island working with the Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre to record and archive Elders speaking their first language - Kwak’wala / Liqwala Language. Our crew for this project consists of a producer, camera person, sound person and an archivist.
The footage and sound we capture are archived on two two hard drives and the metadata is collected:
– within the discmeta.xml database generated by the primary camera,
– with the sound logs generated by our sound person,
– and with an overall database filled out by the archivist.
We also set up a second tape based camera which backs up all footage in an alternative medium, HD tapes, and from a different angle and focal point. This allows editing together of the two cameras but most importantly creates another safeguard for the preservation of the footage collected in this project.
We are honored to be part of this project.
